Investigative Journalism

Project Header 'Welcome to the Project'

Eamonn O'NeillThe Investigative Journalism Project website is part of the new MSc in Investigative Journalism course at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. It aims to detail the course and - where possible - print examples of students' work online.

The MSc was launched in late 2007 and its first intake of students are currently working hard in this groundbreaking course. The Masters degree in investigative journalisn was the first of its kind in the UK. Building on previous journalism excellence at Strathclyde University, the course offers students the chance to work on skills and techniques which will help them hone investigative approaches designed for the 21st century.

Students learn about the history and theory of this kind of journalism - in both the UK and USA; as well as how to apply these lessons to practical projects which, hopefully assist them in learning 'on the job'.

They study and learn in a dynamic, state-of-the-art educational environment in the University of Strathclyde, and are exposed to professionals from all sectors of the media industry in Scotland and the UK.

Students also have the opportunity to meet other Post-Graduate journalism students, and explore different styles of journalism, as well as delve into ways they can present their work online, or in print and broadcast.

From Autumn 2008, the MSc course also links with the University of Strathclyde's new Innocence Project - which will allow students working on investigative projects to play a central role in examining and publicising 'real life' alleged miscarriage of justice cases via this world-renowned campus-based initiative which I am proud to have kick-started at Strathclyde, the first of its kind in Scotland and only one of three in the UK.

Please do examine this site for past students' work examples and link to more details on the MSc here: Strathclyde Masters In Investigative Journalism
